Violent Clashes Erupt in Tanhuato, Michoacán

On Sunday, March 16 in Michoacán, in the town of Tanhuato, an armed conflict broke out. Armed civilians clashed with agents of the National Guard, causing roadblocks and chaos in the area by setting vehicles on fire at least in four points on the Ecuandureo-La Piedad and Tanhuato-La Estación highways.

The shootings began after 6:00 PM when National Guard agents were attacked. Images and videos of the violent acts circulated on social media, showing the extent of the damage. The confrontations extended to towns such as Yurécuaro, Zamora, La Piedad, and other municipalities near Michoacán.

According to reports, the armed civilians could be hitmen from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), who allegedly initiated the confrontations in San Antonio de Rivas, Jalisco, linked to "El Tío Laco," close to "El Mencho," leader of the CJNG. In total, at least five people were reported dead and several injured in these confrontations, including both National Guard agents and armed civilians. Authorities continue to investigate the events to gather more details about what happened in Michoacán and the borders with Jalisco.
